Large Vase - Yellow Magnesium Matte
This vase was thrown on the wheel before being covered in a dark stoneware clay slip to achieve the golden swirl effect.
This glaze gets its colour from a combination of iron, titanium and zirconium whilst the texture comes from a magnesium based glaze paired with specific ratios of silica and alumina.
The mottled colour effect is the result of crystal growth in the cooling down stage of the firing whilst the dark speckling comes from iron in the dark stoneware clay body which has bled through the glaze due to a reduction fired atmosphere.
